Restore is a command that goes back over 30 yrs I believe. Along with ditto and others.
If you used a backup program like Retrospect, you'd probably have to use that. DU Restore works fine (but that is very new).
So does TriBackup or CCC or any OS X compliant program or utility.But having tested Drive 10 and TechTool Pro I found them 'wanting.' The normal method in the manner I was brought up was to dump files to two tapes during one pass.When you are reading and writing to/from the same drive you are getting a lot of head movement, seeks, and less than half the drive's rated performance. Even half full my ATA drive gets 57MB/sec, more on SCSI drives. Half of either means you are running at less than 30MB/sec.You HAVE to (or should get people in the habit) of backing up FIRST. It seems like trouble, but it has always been faster to just reinitialize.

I have one disk drive that is nothing but various clean, test, working, and spare partitions JUST for OS X boot systems.I also keep a small emergency OS X boot volume on drives. And I have been known to partition just to put large DVD files and archive files away. Not that you don't, won't, can't partition.

FWIW, my experience was different. 10.4.5, on my G5, booting from my internal backup boot drive to run DiskWarrior on my internal primary boot drive, but running DiskWarrior from a FW400 drive which has no bootable OS on it, DiskWarrior did the exact same thing, quits unexpectedly right before it presents you with the option of saving a report.On my iBook G4 with 10.4.5, booting from my backup FW400 drive to run DiskWarrior on the internal drive, get the exact same result.In both cases, DiskWarrior completes its work but quits afterwards, just like reported. Looks as if it is time for Alsoft to fix something. It may be this DW-Quicktime 7.0.4 problem:Here's the fix for that one:Open the Diskwarrior.app package, and then the Resources folder and change the name of the.aiff file from 'Complete.aiff' to 'Alert Complete.aiff'.-I've been having a different Diskwarrior 3.0.3 rev39 problem for a while now:I have it installed in /Applications/Utilities on my primary internal boot drive. Both my second internal drive and fw800 drives are clones of my primary boot drive.If I rebuild and replace the directories of the second internal and a fw800 drive, it renders both drives un-bootable in normal mode. A Safe Boot of either is required to boot them successfully. Thereafter, they will boot normally.
